DESCRIPTION

· The LTC4238 is a high voltage, high current Hot Swap controller designed for safe board insertion and removal from live backplanes.

· It features dual 12V gate drive suitable for high power applications, enabling safe operating area sharing across parallel MOSFETs or supporting a 2-stage start-up process.

· The device includes active current limiting with two foldback options, constant power profile, and high power profile for handling large input steps.

· It provides output power good notification and protection against input undervoltage, overvoltage, overcurrent, and FET failure conditions.

FEATURES

· Wide operating voltage range from 6.5V to 80V.

· Drives two gates for high power applications, configurable in parallel, staged start, or single MOSFET modes.

· Adjustable precision current limit from 6mV to 20mV with current foldback to limit MOSFET power.

· SOA timer optimizes MOSFET capability, monitors V_GS and V_DS for MOSFET health.

· 12V gate drive for lower MOSFET R_DS(ON), parallelable controllers for very high current levels.

· Available in 24-Lead Narrow SSOP and 24-Pin 4mm × 5mm QFN packages.
