What is ARINC 600?
ARINC 600 series connector inserts are precision connector components designed for high-performance avionics equipment. These inserts can be signal, power, coaxial, triaxial, twinaxial, or fiber optic contact elements, supporting a variety of wiring and connection requirements. Known for their high-density layout, low insertion force design, sealed and unsealed versions, and multiple polarization positions, ARINC 600 series connectors offer full interoperability with existing ARINC 600 plug connectors. They are suitable for aviation electronics applications ranging from collision avoidance systems, in-flight entertainment, to air-to-ground communications.
Why is ARINC 600 so widely used?
The ARINC 600 standard is known for introducing the Modular Concept Unit (MCU) in avionics. It distinguishes itself from other avionic standards by specifying connector shell design, insert layout, and mounting dimensions. A rack built to ARINC 600 standards enables modular equipment to be easily installed, removed, or replaced without needing to disassemble the entire system. This modular design allows for flexible integration of various signal, power, and optical contacts, depending on the equipment's function. This approach not only saves time during installation and repairs but is also cost-effective, as complete equipment units don’t need to be replaced. This is especially advantageous in aircraft where large and complex systems are common.
