Overview

DESCRIPTION

· The TL16C550C and TL16C550CI are upgraded versions of the TL16C550B asynchronous communications element (ACE), which itself is an upgrade of the TL16C450. They are functionally equivalent to the TL16C450 on power up and can be placed in an alternate FIFO mode to reduce CPU software overhead by buffering received and transmitted characters. The receiver and transmitter FIFOs can store up to 16 bytes, with additional error status bits for the receiver FIFO. The device includes a programmable baud rate generator and supports a 1-Mbaud serial rate with a 16-MHz input clock.

· Standard asynchronous communication bits (start, stop, and parity) can be added or deleted.
· Operates at 5-V and 3.3-V.
· Independent receiver clock input.
· Fully programmable serial interface characteristics.
· Internal diagnostic capabilities including loopback controls and error simulation.
· Fully prioritized interrupt system controls.
· Modem control functions (CTS, RTS, DSR, DTR, RI, and DCD).
