Automotive, ASIL-D Battery-Pack Monitor with isoSPI & Shunt Current Sense

1. Device Overview

• Function: 12-channel high-voltage battery-pack monitor (current, voltage, auxiliary sensors)
• Grade: “W” = automotive AEC-Q100 Grade-1 (–40 °C … +125 °C)
• Package: 48-lead side-solderable QFN (suffix “CCSZ”) – 7 mm × 7 mm, 0.5 mm pitch, exposed pad
• Interface: isoSPI (2 Mbps, transformer or capacitor coupled) + 4-wire SPI fallback
• Safety: triple-redundant ADCs & comparators, majority voting, developed for ISO 26262 ASIL D (ADBMS295xWFS models)

2. Core Measuring Functions

2.1 Pack-Current Measurement

• Sense element: external 100 µΩ … 2 mΩ shunt
• 16-bit ΔΣ ADC, 1 kS/s continuous, ±1 µV max offset, ±0.1 % max gain error
• Coulomb-counting mode (lossless integration) with 1 ms update
• Two fast over-current ADCs (digital threshold + PWM output) for <10 µs fault response

2.2 Pack-Voltage Measurement

• Differential or single-ended, 0 V … 1000 V common-mode
• Synchronized to current ADC for impedance tracking / power calculation

2.3 Auxiliary Voltage Inputs (10 channels)

• Buffered, high-Z (≈1 MΩ) inputs
• Measures: contactor state, HV-link, isolation resistor, temperature sensors, divider supervision
• On-demand or continuous, differential or single-ended

3. Digital Resources

• 6 General-Purpose Outputs (GPOs) – open-drain / push-pull, 5 V capable, for driving HV disconnect FETs or dividers
• 4 GPIOs – dual-threshold read-back, optionally configured as I²C-master or SPI-master to reach external EEPROM, PMIC, etc.

• Supply voltage (VREG): 4.5 V … 5.5 V (typically 5 V from simple LDO)
• Sleep current: 6 µA typ, 12 µA max
• Active conversion: 12 mA typ @ 1 kS/s current + 100 S/s auxiliary

8. Design-in Highlights

• Place 100 nF … 1 µF isoSPI coupling cap close to pins; keep 150 Ω termination on cable side
• Kelvin-connect shunt; keep sense traces <10 mm and guarded
• Use local RC filter (100 Ω / 1 nF) on each auxiliary input for EMI robustness
• Exposed pad = AGND; connect with multiple vias to internal ground plane for thermal & electrical performance
